Our Work

The Centre for Biodiverse Carbon Farming facilitates the proliferation and development of ecological food systems which increase biodiversity, sequester carbon, create ecological resilience and support energy independence.

Polyculture systems are extremely well suited to food security projects

One of the tools available to assist in this mission is finance from carbon offsetting. Our model utilises this to fund farms’ transition into a more biodiverse and profitable system.

The polyculture systems which are the basis of our work are extremely well suited to food security projects. Informed by these systems, the CBCF can design food systems that supply all the needs of a local community.

Our model has some key components:

  • Working with farmers to design highly productive and biodiverse systems for their farms
  • Developing long-term financial plans and facilitating routes to market
  • Enterprise Stacking on the farm, bringing in collaborative farm enterprises to increase farm income
  • Advising on the development of communal processing facilities
  • Consulting on the development of alternative sources of income that make the system financially independent from selling carbon credits in the long-term

We are setup to carry out research, modelling, design, implementation and consultancy that can bring about greater biodiversity while improving farm profitability.
