Measurability

The Measurability Story

Woody products from agroforestry systems are measured regularly, with the crops being harvested and weighed.

This has a significant advantage over other methods of sequestering carbon, that rely heavily on estimates.

Purchasers of carbon credits from biodiverse farms can know very reliably how much carbon has been sequestered

Purchasers of carbon credits from biodiverse farms with wood tree crops can know very precisely and reliably how much carbon has been sequestered, as the wood yields are measured.

CBCF works with farmers long-term, periodically receiving measurements of their tree crop yields. All of the end uses of wood biomass must conform to standards set by the carbon accreditor. Biochar, wood and chipboard furniture and gasification with combined heat and power are several options for storing the carbon after harvesting the wood. In all these cases, how much carbon has been sequestered is measured as a matter of course.
